Black and White Gallery Wall

Create and Black and White Gallery Wall

I have been in love with the concept of a gallery wall for years, but never thought I could successfully execute a gallery wall in my own house.  We have huge vaulted ceilings in our living room and I have wanted to fill the wall behind our couch with pictures and wall hangings that reflect our style.  I finally got the courage to put together a gallery wall- but not just any gallery wall.  I chose to create a black and white gallery wall with accents of wood and iron.

Want to get the same look?  Here are five elements I included in my gallery wall.

Black and White Canvas Pictures

These are so simple and easy to make.  My friend, Tasha over at Designer Trapped in a Lawyer’s Body has the BEST tutorial on how to make these.  Low-cost and high impact- that’s the best way I can describe these black and white canvas pictures.

Initial

Every gallery wall I have seen includes the initial of the family.  I decided to use a few different styles/colors of “R” in my gallery wall.  This one I found at Michaels for $1.  It was cardboard and I simply painted it white and used a sharpee paint pen to make the bottom black.

Use numbers

I’ve seen numbers used in gallery walls from special dates; to time-of-birth…the sky is the limit!  Use numbers in your gallery wall to break up the pictures.  I chose to use our wedding date above a black and white framed picture of us on our wedding.

Textures

I really wanted to create a gallery wall with different textures.  I was able to achieve this by using wood and iron accents.  I made the wood arrow out of reclaimed wood.  Our wedding date is iron numbers that I found at a craft store.  Black and white DIY gallery wall

It doesn’t have to match

Although I chose to make my gallery wall black and white, it features picture frames that are mismatched and not everything on the wall is a similar size.  I like having different elements on my gallery wall to give it depth.

Think of your gallery wall as a reflection of your family and what is important to you.  A visitor should immediately get a glimpse into your life by peaking at your gallery wall.  Showcase your favorite photos or something special to you.  Does your family love skiing in Vail- how about a vintage print of a map of Colorado?  Be creative and create a gallery wall that makes you smile.

I love the way you created this wall. It lends itself to easily changing out the photos without the agony of exact sizes and shapes of the frames. Great job.
