Beautiful Lamp Transformation

Beautiful Transformation

I am so excited to share this beautiful lamp transformation with you all!

Does it bother anyone else that homes are not built with overhead lighting anymore?  The house I grew up in had overhead lights (and ceiling fans) in every room.  That meant you could flip on the switch by the door of any room and the light hanging from the ceiling would magically come on.  I think every home I have lived in that was build post-1990 has lacked overhead lighting. Maybe it is a regional thing- I grew up in Texas and now live in northern Virginia.  Whatever the reason, it really became an issue when we moved into our town home in Alexandria two years ago. The only rooms with overhead lighting are the bathrooms, laundry room and the kitchen.  Sure we have lights in the hall and entryway, but not a single overhead light in the living room or any of the bedrooms.  We do however have plenty of light switches in the bedrooms.  For instance, our bedroom has four switches, yet I only know what one does.

1970's Lamp

After we moved in, I mentioned to my mother-in-law that I needed a lamp for my bed-side table.  She immediately sent my father-in-law down to the basement and he returned with this gem! Seriously- this lamp was in great shape, just a bit dated.  I knew it had potential.  I actually used this lamp in its original condition in our bedroom for the past two years until a couple of weeks ago when I finally decided to make it pretty.

I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint since it is advertised to go on any kind of surface (including glossy ceramic lamps circa 1975).  I mixed a bit of pure white with graphite to get this beautiful shade of gray.  The stencil is Martha Stewart’s and I used the same custom mix of gray and pure white for the design on the lamp shade.

Finished Lamp

I’m truly happy with how this lamp turned out.  Now I’m heading over to my in-law’s basement to see what else I can transform!

Until next time!

Allison
