IKEA Hack- Farmhouse Window Mirror

I have  an awesome IKEA hack to share with you guys today.   A few months ago I bought a MINDE mirror from IKEA.  The MINDE is the basic $9.99 full size mirror without a frame.  I bought it thinking: hey, I’ll DIY this frame sometime soon.

This farmhouse window mirror is one of my favorite IKEA hacks!

What You Need :

DAP Rapid Fuse Wood Adhesive
IKEA MINDE Mirror
Half Round TrimClamps

Circular Saw

Paint

Make this beautiful farmhouse window mirror...and easy IKEA hack!

How to: IKEA Hack- Farmhouse Window Mirror

I began this project by painting all of the pieces of half round. I used Annie Sloan’s Pure White Chalk Paint.  I didn’t completely cover the pieces of half round with the paint.  I just did a messy paint job since I wanted a vintage farmhouse look.  I then waxed the half round pieces with a combination of Annie Sloan dark and clear wax to give it that vintage feel.  I measured and cut all of my half round pieces and then began the process of gluing them to the mirror. This $10 mirror from IKEA was transitioned into a farmhouse window mirror with a little molding and glue!

This is the first time I have used DAP Rapid Fuse Wood Adhesive and I was very impressed as to how easy it was to work with. You don’t need much.  Just apply a small amount of the Rapid Fuse on one of the surfaces you are fusing together.  This stuff cures quickly, but not immediately.  A couple of times, I realized that my half round was not lined up correctly right after I applied the rapid fuse and I was able to adjust the placement of some of my pieces of half round to get them perfect.  The package says that you have up to 3 minutes to adjust the placement of the pieces you are fusing!I loved using Dap Rapid fuse for creating this IKEA hack!

I used clamps to hold the pieces in place and within 30 minutes, my “window” mirror was completely cured and ready to go! Two other things I really liked about using DAP Rapid Fuse Wood Adhesive was that it is clear, which was perfect when working with a mirror and it doesn’t get “puffy”.  If you have used other adhesives, sometimes they puff up to fill space and fuse surfaces together, but DAP Rapid Fuse Wood Adhesive does not puff up.I used clamps to hold the trim in place to make this farmhouse window mirror.

I am really pleased with how this IKEA hack turned out. By strategically placing trim, I was able to completely change the look of this mirror and give it a farmhouse feel!I took a cheap Ikea mirror and turned it into a farmhouse window mirror!
